Caribbean Bloggers Week was a great virtual connection with other Caribbean bloggers globally. Caribbean Bloggers Week creator Ingrid Riley of Silicon Caribe hosted a twitter chat talking about the business of blogging with the meetup city hosts; Odessa Chambers of OAccess Jamaica, Mel Gabriel of Caribbean Lookbook and Ursula Barzey of Caribbean & Co. The meetup events took place in London, Port of Spain, Kingston and New York City. Each of the meetups had a different execution rooted in the importance of digital and bloggers as influencers.
I hosted the New York City meetup with about 12 other Caribbean bloggers for an intimate discussion. We shared our personal blog stories, issues we face as niche bloggers and we spent a lot of time talking about monetization. We had bloggers of various Caribbean backgrounds (Trinidad & Tobago, St. Kitts, Haiti, Jamaica and more) all producing content about various topics; music, food, finance, career growth and lifestyle. The meetup proved to be a great sounding board for people to share their experiences and give tips and resources on how we could grow our audiences together.
We had some connection online, but engaging w/each other in person fostered real relationships. Click To TweetConnecting with each other was really important as many of us had some connection online, but engaging with each other in person fostered real relationships. As a blogger, sometimes you feel like it’s just you and your computer, so getting out there and finding your tribe is extremely important. Collaboration fosters new ideas, reinvigorates your passion for blogging, allows for potential opportunities and partnerships. I most definitely look forward to keeping the connection with my fellow Caribbean Bloggers online and off!
Major thanks to Debra of Simply Caribbean for providing appetizers for the event, Natasha of Natty D. Photography for the pictures and Krass Images for the giveaway.
