It was my first time seeing Kes the Band perform and I was not disappointed! The intimate concert setting of Subrosa set the tone for an amazing up close and personal view to take in the Soca band live. I’ve read articles about the band’s musicianship and got to witness firsthand how awesome they were in concert…I’m a fan for life. I’m a groovy Soca kind a girl so I’ve always loved Kes the Band’s music, but what I love about seeing artists live is you get to feel the emotion of the music, more so than just listening through speakers, even when you’re rocking it a deafening levels (yeah I like my music at ignorant levels, but that’s besides the point.) If you haven’t gotten to see Kes the Band live and even if you have and want to take him in again, he doing one last show in NYC at Subrosa this evening. Don’t fret, I’m sure they will be back after Trinidad Carnival at some point! If you’re unable to see them catch a snippet of the vibes below.
They performed classics like Tuesday On The Rocks, Wotless, Thief A Wine, True Masquerader and more. The performance included new ballad Balloons.
What I love about Kes the Band is their versatile the group is with staying true to Roca roots while infusing other genres of music as well. Lead singer Kees’ vocal range is melodic bridging Soca flavor with R&B and Rock. Its speaks to band’s range of music without giving us the watered down version of the culture.
