I’m always looking for a great Caribbean Restaurant, there has been a number of great Caribbean spots opening up all over New York and other major cities. The NY Times did a write up of a mostly Manhattan. There are some really great ones in the boroughs too. {NY Times}
Reggae’s global reach has always been known. With any music genre, there are peaks and valley’s in it’s mainstream popularity. While avid reggae fans have continued to listen to the genre there seems a major interest in the music, the reggae roots music from a mainstream perspective. Vogue did a great online special highlighting some young roots reggae generation. I loved that they also featured the women in reggae. {Vogue}
“Save your money!” Sou Sous have been a largely popular way for Caribbean and African people to save large amounts of money. The savings club of course doesn’t give interest, but allows for the discipline of saving, especially if you don’t have any restraint when pay day comes. {The Griot}
I was recently having a conversation with one of my good friends from college who recently had someone commenting about her ‘fro. She’s afro-latina and had to school a few folks in her timeline about the history about her culture. I’m so proud to have great friends who aren’t afraid to cultural check people when they need to.
