Harlem’s Fashion Row was an amazing New York Fashion Week experience. There were so many style mavens sitting in the audience, but more importantly we all share the same vision and passion for men and women of color in the fashion industry. Since inception Harlem’s Fashion Row has provided a platform for new designers, stylist and influencers in the fashion industry to develop and thrive by forging a fashion community in support of black designers. This year’s show and awards recognized individuals for their fashion achievements and presented emerging brands M.Sew, Fe Noel and The Fashion Deli.
Harlem’s Fashion Row also honor some of black fashion’s well known influencers with style awards to stylists Misa Hylton, Groovey Lew, Rachel Johnson, In Style editor Kahlana Barfield, actress Tracee Ellis Ross, media maven Bevy Smith, Haitian-American designer Azede Jean-Pierre and the Macy’s team.
The room was filled with warmth and people who seemed to genuinely support one another, a feeling that I have never been able to experience at other fashion shows and presentations. Beyond the show and star studded audience, the message was clear, be yourself, follow your passion and continue to support our black designers by keeping them top of mind in writing, purchasing and styling clients. Here are a few of my favorite looks. (Photos by Harlem’s Fashion Row)
Here’s a video of the final walks for each of the designer’s so that you can see more of the looks.
