So, I skipped the content report for May and June (bad blogger). The content report is really about me being consistent and honest with myself on my lack of consistency. I’m sharing hoping that it will inspire you as my reader as I tackle my own challenge of being consistent.
With that explanation out of the way we can get down to the details. Although I haven’t met any of my goals, I’m making progress. Here were my goals that I set forth in the April Content Report:
Goals for May
- More Original Content: 15 Posts
- Increase Monthly Views by 25%
- Social Content: 2 Instagram post per day and daily interaction on Facebook (develop specific goals for social)
Let’s evaluate how I did in July:
- For July I had 8 posts (3 with original content). Promoting other articles (S&V Link Lovin’), and sharing things like the Triple the Focus Magazine issue release and Carry on Friend Podcast are what I consider non-original content. Interviews, reviews and Top… posts are what I consider original content since it originates with my point of view. I’ve taken to this approach as a balanced approach which is why I’m keeping my goal of 15 posts a month. I should be able to be consistent in posting this information along with my own. (August Goal: 15 posts)
- Top posts for the last few months have been my Tilsa Wright interview, 5 Caribbean Comedians on Youtube, 5 Instagram Accounts to follow for Haitian Culture.
- Page Views increase were pretty much the same. I’m more frustrated with this than anything else, I need to figure our a way to drive more traffic. I’m hoping more original content will help that.
- I focused a lot on social in the last few months.
- Instagram: I gathered a few other bloggers to do a loop giveaway for Caribbean American Heritage Month for June. and increased my Instagram followers to 556 (up from about 280 back in April) My Instagram goal is at least 3 posts per day, with 52 posts (average almost 2 posts per day). Closest of all my goals — even though I didn’t meet them I’m being consistent. I find Instagram the easiest to be engaged on because it’s my favorite social network.
- Facebook: 45 posts to my Facebook page, mostly for links to my blog (80 % my content/20% for others) I think I’ll keep my goal of at least 60 posts per month and try to have 50%/50% sharing. My original images tend to get the best response so I’ll try to incorporate more of those. Facebook still continues to lead in driving social traffic so I need to be more engaging on the Facebook page.
- Twitter: I just unlinked my Facebook/Twitter automatic feed, I don’t get much traffic from it anyway and I think posting to each separately and looking at the various time to find my sweet spot for this will be great. I co-hosted Caribbean Girl Who Blog‘s first chat with about brands and bloggers (#CGWBChat). That was an amazing experience getting to host and share knowledge with other was inspiring — not to mention I gained quite a number of new followers. I’m still trying to figure out a strategy for my twitter beyond just posting links to the blog.
- Other content related items:
For social media, engagement is key. I don’t always factor in the time it takes to engage all those platforms accordingly, but I’ll get there. Overall I think I’m making progress in the quality and consistency of my post by honing in developing a blog cadence. As I write this I have 3 other posts in the queue to finish and post. I’m proud of the focused effort even though I didn’t meet my goals. I also want to do more video and incorporate a weekly newsletter (August goals!)
What are some of your content goals for the month? How do you stay on track?

Thanks for sharing Mikelah. Very interesting. I think I should do a content report as well. I might do it after the annual survey and a post about the blog’s pivot.
