Recently took a browse over at Boomshots and saw a clip WorldFocus did on Dancehall music on Jamaica:
Shabba Ranks was recently in the U.K. talking with Gammo Speng about Dancehall’s current state. Shabba Ranks is well respected for hits like Mr. Loverman, Wicked inna Bed and Ting-a-Ling. He is also the first Dancehall artist to win a Grammy, so he know what he’s talking about. Shabba at first tried to decline to comment on the latest feud between Vybz Kartel and Bounty Killer, but in true advisory role he digressed to speak the truth on what Dancehall artist should really be focusing on. (Thanks to Nikki Z for the link)
Everyone has their own opinion. I hear people feuding over the same issue and their favorite DJs all the time, but when is too much? Is Dancehall (artistes, soundmen and fans) so consumed with their own rivalries that it will always be considered a sub-genre?
