Caribbean designer’s RepJA did a recent photo shoot for their latest Dancehall inspired collection of t-shirts. Gaza. Gully. Check out the footage below. I really love the progress of these young designers as they are representing Dancehall culture to the fullest, but I have to ask: Do these t-shirts add fuel to slowly fizzled fire?

The Gaza/Gully fued between Vybz Kartel and Mavado, respectively, gained serious momentum in 2009/2010 leading to fans attacking one another in defense of “their artist”. The lyrical fued has garnered international coverage (Village Voice), lead to the artists being banned in neighboring Caribbean islands (Jamaica Gleaner) and the artist setting aside their personal fued ending the fued with a public treaty . However I still hear the Gaza/Gully argument at parties and in conversation regularly.
It’s quite possible that this is just art imitating what’s going on in the music right now, but will wearing t-shirt perpetuate more of the same? What are your thoughts?
