Troy Johnson, Owner of YHYF Luxury Wedding Grooming and works at Standard Grooming Barbershop Co., an all Black owned Barbershop in Brooklyn, NY has dedicated his 2nd Annual Soca Run Festival to Ahmaud Arbery. After being one of the few Black runners in marathons that he’s completed across the world, Troy decided to bring together the two things that he love the most, Running & Soca music. He runs to Soca and is an avid carnival goer. Carnival in itself is a marathon and so the Soca Run Festival was formed. The Soca Run Festival was created to inspire the Black and Caribbean community to improve health through fun & fitness. Due to COVID-19 this year’s Soca Run Festival will be held virtually on June 27
This year is extra special to me because I am running for Ahmaud Arbery who was killed due to senseless racism. As someone who is constantly running and training in the streets, that could’ve been me. We are calling upon not only the Black running or fitness communities, families and friends and of course Soca enthusiasts but Black and Carib culture leaders to get involved and run with us virtually on June 27th. We want to bring our communities together to walk and run for a great cause. Carnival culture is about bringing people together and thats what we aim to do with the Soca Run Fesival.
