Trinidad & Tobago welcomes its first female president, Paula-Mae Weekes. The former lawyer and judge, Weekes was put forward by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley for the position in January 2018 and was elected on January 19, 2018. The country previously welcomed its first female Prime Minister just eight years ago with Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
