Change is the process of continuous re-invention of self. Revamping your style and vibes are part of that process, but it doesn’t have to something you change overnight or all at one time. Small adjustments and trying something new allows you have new experiences, find new things you like and changes your outlook. Here are some ways that you can revamp your style and vibe this year.
1.) Try a new trend or buy a luxury fashion piece
Buy something new that’s not typically your style. I’m not big on major trends, but trying one or two can change the way you look at trends. I’m also not a label hoarder, I like great clothes and pick based on fit and style aesthetic. I’m really looking to make my first luxury designer purchase this year preferably from a designer of color and/or of Caribbean descent. I’m focused on quality over quantity when it comes to my wardrobe, at least I think so until I see something really cute in season. Who am I kidding, I’m not short on excuses to shop…only on funds!
2.) Read a book
Last year, I wanted to start reading novels again. I read 10 thanks to joining a book club. During that time I also discovered Audible, which has become a favorite! Listening to books works well for me especially because I usually read most books once and don’t have a lot of time to sit and read. It also allow you to explore new books, I have Luvvie’s “I’m Judging You” and Trevor Noah’s “Born a Crime” in my queue, both are not typically books I’d read.
3.) Listen to something new
I’m not good at listening to new music that’s not English. I really want to listen to more Afro-Beats and Salsa (I’m definitely going to use Google to translate, so I can try to understand what I’m singing along to.) I want to get into the artists, history and music production just as much as I do for current favorite genres.
4.) Do something new
There are so many things to do in my own back yard. I want to explore my home state a little more and venture out to new places locally, even through the winter months (I usually like to hibernate).
5.) Shop your closet
I know I told you to buy something new, but I’m sure there’s plenty in your closet. Find a new way to wear what’s already in your closet. We tend to buy new items because we’re tired of the old, but if you change the way you typically wear a favorite item, if gives a new perspective.
6.) Go Solo
Doing something solo can feel awkward at first, but trust me, you get to learn a lot about yourself and get to have great conversations with new people this way. Let’s face it, your friends don’t always want to do the same things you want to do, even if they can’t go it’s not an excuse not to do things you’ve always wanted to. Solo travel trip (that’s not for work) is on my list. But you can start small, try a local restaurant for lunch, bar for happy hour, musical event or museum.
What’s something you want do you want to do differently?
