I know it’s the end of July, but I had such a great June that I wanted to share. I was a busy, but it was extremely fulfilling! Caribbean American Heritage Month had so many amazing moments that I had to share a mini re-cap on the fun filled month.
I teamed up with Kerry of Carry on Friends for a Caribbean American Heritage Month series where we interview five amazing individuals of various Caribbean heritage about their brand and culture Melissa Boutin (Personal Finance) Geogie-Ann Getton-McCoy (Digital/Technology) Khalilah Rose (Baker), Renee Baptise (Make-up artist) and Shelley Worrell (Culture Expert) each of these ladies had such a wonderful story to share.
I attended New Traditions 2016: Dance Your Caribbean! organized by Candace Thompson, founder of Dance Caribbean Collective. It was an amazing collection of contemporary Caribbean dance performances created by five Caribbean choreographers. It was nothing like I’ve never seen. The stories from each performances were so vivid and poignant. It really solidified the need for more contemporary Caribbean dance as displayed.
Georgie-Ann hosted a Caribbeans in Tech meetup with a panel discussion and I was part of the panel discussing how we navigate in niche spaces.
I co-hosted an event at the caribBEING house along with Kerry and Nia Philips (co-creator of Caribbean Girls Who Blog) for the #MyCaribbeanHeritage Lime. It was a fun filled day of conversation, music, food and of course full of vibes.
Check out this video which captured some of the festivities.
