I keep not making my goal of 15 posts, but at least I’m consistently doing 10. October’s goal will be 10 posts too. I have some other projects and idea executions that I need to do, so I won’t have as many posts. I’ll keep a 10 post goal through the end of the year.
My most popular posts this month was “Is Tommy Hilfiger’s S/S 2016 Collection an Appropriation of Jamaican Culture?” . This was a really great opinionated piece that seemed to resonate with people. I plan on doing more pieces like this in the future. A major content win is understanding what people want. I’m still working on my content strategy by trying new kinds of content (written, graphic and video), but the stats never lie and I really loved writing this piece.
Social Stats
Facebook Page Likes: 209
I ran my first Facebook campaign this month. I know organic growth is great, so many bloggers in the space I wanted to test to see how it works. Facebook is definitely a pay to play platform. I missed the boat for organic growth in huge numbers. But it wasn’t THAT expensive and it definitely worked as I 40+ more followers in just a week. I also did a post boost for “Is Tommy Hilfiger’s S/S 2016 Collection an Appropriation of Jamaican Culture?” post, which also did very well. I paid about $50 total for those campaigns (New Likes 46, Reach 1,171, Total Spent $46.81). I’ll share something with you. Most of my traffic comes from Facebook and Twitter. So, I’m focusing a lot on those platforms. I’m working on how I can differentiate engagement on both and working seeing what works best in driving traffic back to the blog.
Twitter: 570
I’m actually down in followers on Twitter. But I have been interacting much there this month, with the exception of tweeting out my posts.
Instagram: 622 +35 new followers.
I’d love to hit 1000 by the end of the year. Instagram is definitely my favorite platform to engage on, it’s quick and visual, but doesn’t drive as much traffic to the blog. Instagram is just about community engagement. I do notice that I’m getting unfollows as well, which is ok, my content isn’t for everyone and respect the ones that want me in their world, so I’m not getting caught up on those stats, but I have to take note, because I’m sharing net followers with you (Statistically, I really gained 55 followers, but lost 20, so my net followers is 35)
- Likes: 535 (down from August) total media likes – I didn’t track that last month
- Comments: 90 (up from August) total comments – I didn’t track that last month
Other important notes:
Since Blogalicious, I’ve been working behind to scenes to plan how I want to grow the blog. Content is king (which is why I started this content report), but marketing is it’s queen. So my focus has been on marketing my brand better, not that I have some sort of content consistency. My end of year goals is to create a system that allows me to balance both aspects with a goal of pre-posting all of my posts (writing and editing in batches on the weekend) so that I can spend more time marketing and engaging with my community during the week.
The Style & Vibes Newsletter is launching (actually the first one went out last week), you may have seen the new toolbar and newsletter sign up. It will be bi-weekly for now, but I’m hoping to increase to weekly in the future. This is another form of content and I’m hoping a great way to keep people engaged (would love if you subscribed, click the image below to signup.) Blogalicious also inspired me to do the t-shirt line I’ve been thinking about for months! Going to start small with one or two designs and see how that goes.
I’m so proud of the progress that I’ve made. I haven’t hit every goal, but I’m much more focused than I’ve ever been and I’m enjoying blogging again.
October Goals:
- Launch Newsletter
- Video
- 10 Posts
- T-Shirt Launch
