I took the little one to see Three Little Birds, the musical based on Cedella Marley‘s children’s book. The musical premiered last year in the DC area and made it’s way to New York City this February (it’s playing at the New Victory Theater through the end of February.) The musical featured music from Bob Marley catalog include the musical’s namesake, “Three Little Birds”, “One Love”, “Jamming”, “Natural Mystic”, “I Shot The Sheriff” and more. Honestly, I think I enjoyed it just as she did! It was such a vibrant play and the actors did such a great job capturing children coming of age while exploring an island adventure through music with a superstitious Ziggy, his three birds and fearless friend Nanci. Of course dad and I were singing along to all the songs and Cheeks kept looking at us like we were crazy, but we all thoroughly enjoyed the show. The musical was a great way to share Reggae music and Caribbean culture with her through the arts. I was elated that this was her first musical experience. The cast even signed her playbook and took pictures.
