The Caribbean Summer Concert at Six Flags Great Adventure NJ went down over the weekend. Hundreds of Caribbean music lovers gathered for the this family friendly event, making a day of exciting rides and musical sounds from some the Caribbean’s top artistes in Soca and Dancehall.
Opening the show was the young Soca singer Devyn, who warmed up the crowd with great energy. Female rapper Lee Amazing took to the stage as the only hip hop act of the night. The crowd kept entertained with lengthy set of music in between the next act building great vibes throughout the entire arena.
D’Angel brought her “A” game to New Jersey representing for the ladies. While many, at first barely clapped upon her entrance, she had a group of fans yelling her signature “And Suh” which seemingly gave her more confidence as her performance progressed. She breezed through a few of her well known songs “Baby Father”, “Stronger” and new single “Hot Gal March Out”. But it was her DJing without music where she shined the most, getting a good rise out of the crowd.
Laza Morgan got a lukewarm response from the crowd ‘This Girl” ,”All She Wants” and his hit with Mavado “One by One”.
Mr. Vegas put on a high energy show, getting the best crowd participation of the night. After his DJ Star hyped up the crowd with a slew of Reggae and Dancehall hits, Vegas entered the stage with “I’m Blessed” before jumping into he catalog of hits like “Jack it Up”, “Tek Weh Yuself”, “Gallis” and more.
King of the Dancehall, Beenie Man is always a favorite. The DJ was all smiles during his performance and shared a few of his dance moves throughout the performance. Beenie started his set early hits like “Romie”, “Slam” , “World Dance” and brought it up to “Chaka, Chaka”, “King of the Dancehall” ,”Dude” and “Let’s Go”.
He even brought out D’Angel and they shared the stage looking like a couple (although there are no official reports that the two are in fact back together, they still legally married and look quite smitten with each other on stage.)
Soca Monarch and Viking, Bunji Garlin hit the stage with little time to perform (flight issues impeded on his ability to hit the stage earlier with more time.) He only truly go to perform his latest hit, “Differentology” and freestyled his explanation and apology to the crowd (see video below). He turned the mini performance into a family affair bringing on his young daughter and wife Faye-Ann to close out the show on a solid family note.
