After spending the morning doing my soccer mom duties and having breakfast with both of Cheeks’ grandmas, I went the Fashion Standard’s Spring Tea Soirée, a fashion networking event created by Keishel Williams, creator and designer of JLESHIEK. In light of Mother’s Day, many of the attendees, including myself, brought their moms. It was nice because my mom got a glimpse of what I do at events like this, which gave her better understanding and appreciation for my blogging life.
I gave an impromptu speech about women upholding their standards while working in the fashion industry. As a highly competitive field, filled multiple personality battling it out for exclusivity and great opportunities, we must “stay ready” for the unexpected and be tenacious enough navigate through the industry with grace. I’m a firm believer in dressing the part to be taken seriously, which is what I spoke to when addressing attendees, “People see you before they speak with you. They base their judgment about who you are before getting to know you or your work ethic. In a highly visual industry you have to look the part all the time, regardless of career status. It’s part of your personal brand.”
I also mingled with a few people, making some great connection for future projects and blog interviews so to it was a great experience. I look forward to more networking events in the future as Keishel explained the Fashion Standard will become a regular networking series. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on future events.
