So this past Friday I celebrated my birthday at Gypsy Tea Room. Caribbean Fuse Team started Caribbean Fridays in Manhattan a few weeks ago, and their e-mail blast said “Celebrate your birthday, you and your entourage free all night” I always travel with an entourage of a least five of my friends, but for my b-day I had an extra twenty or so people. Well the promoters kept their word ‘cause we were all free and didn’t have to wait in line!
Gypsy Tea Room is a cute club with two floors. Reggae & Dancehall on one floor and Soca & Calypso on the next (I didn’t make it to the Soca room, too tipsy to make it up and down the stairs). The vibes was really nice, it was a nice crowd, no fights (there almost was though, a clumsy guy attempted to step to my friend after he spilled his own drink. I could see why he was mad though, that drink was probably $15, poor thing) Callie B from Irie Jam was spinning some nice lover’s rock and ol’ school dancehall. I felt like he really wanted to play some dance tunes, but didn’t want the party to get too outta order, seeing that it was a small space. I’m glad they move it to Club Element on the Lower East Side the venue is a little bigger so I & I have more room to bruck out!
