OOTD (Day 1): Shirt: Forever 21| Skirt: Old Navy | Shoes: Nine West | Necklace: Street Vendor purchase in Brazil
Last weekend I attended the Style Bloggers of Color conference in Miami. The conference was a mix of workshops and panels hosted by successful bloggers giving insight on what worked for them from photography, to social media to creating a content schedule to organize and prioritize while building a successful blog. It’s always great to get together with other bloggers to learn a few new skills, network offline and have a good time (it just so happened to be during Miami Carnival, so I did partake in a few carnival activities.) I picked up a few new tips and was reassured of a few, here are my personal favorites (they’re numbered in order of my personal areas that I’d like to improve on):
- Picture Perfect: The pictures are the bait that draws readers in and keep ‘em coming back.
- Social Media: Choose the right platforms, not all. Authenticity is still the best approach for social media.
- Niche Focus: Because there are so many style bloggers, having a niche is what stands out.
- The Numbers: The numbers are important, but they don’t necessary define whether or not a brand works with you. Being consistent, reliable and results driven are qualities that brands appreciate.
- Working with Brands: Pitch your ideas to brands and publicists. It makes their job easier and the worse a brand can say is “no”…and at least that puts you and your blog on their radar..
